9 Days Morocco Photo Tour

Your photography adventure begins in the vibrant city of Marrakech. After checking into your riad, enjoy a relaxed photo walk inside the old medina. Capture the warm colors of the souks, traditional artisans working in narrow alleys, and scenes of daily local life. As sunset approaches, head to a rooftop terrace overlooking Jemaa el-Fna for beautiful golden-hour shots of the square’s performers, lantern stalls, and evening atmosphere. This first day offers a perfect introduction to Morocco’s lively colors and textures.

Depart Marrakech and cross the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka pass. The journey offers rich photographic opportunities: terraced fields, Berber villages built into the mountainsides, and panoramic viewpoints. In the afternoon, arrive at Aït Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic ksars. Spend time shooting its ancient clay walls as they glow beautifully in the late afternoon light. Walk through the narrow alleys, capturing details of the architecture, before climbing to the top for sunset photos over the entire valley.

After breakfast, visit Ouarzazate, known as “the Hollywood of Morocco,” where you can photograph film studios and the impressive Taourirt Kasbah. Continue to Skoura Oasis, famous for its vast palm groves and the mud-brick Amridil Kasbah—one of the most photogenic locations in southern Morocco. In the afternoon, drive through the Rose Valley and into the dramatic Dades Gorge, stopping at viewpoints to capture rugged mountain formations and carved canyons. Enjoy sunset photography over the winding road of the Dades before dinner at your hotel.

Today’s journey takes you deeper into the Sahara region. Start with a morning walk inside the impressive Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs offer striking compositions. Continue through traditional Berber villages and stop in Erfoud, known for fossil workshops—ideal for macro and detail shots. By late afternoon, arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Take a camel trek into the desert and climb a high dune to photograph the setting sun as it casts long shadows and warm tones across the sand. Spend the night in a desert camp under a magnificent starry sky.

Wake early for a sunrise photography session over the dunes as soft light creates elegant lines and patterns in the sand. After breakfast, visit a nearby nomad family to capture authentic portraits and daily life moments. Continue exploring the desert by 4×4, stopping at panoramic spots, mineral fields, and nomadic areas around Merzouga. Return to your camp or hotel for rest, then head back into the dunes for a second golden-hour shoot. Clear skies make this an excellent night for astrophotography.

Leave the Sahara and drive north through the scenic Ziz Valley, famous for palm groves, ancient irrigation systems, and dramatic river canyons. Along the route, photograph changing landscapes as desert plains slowly transform into Middle Atlas forests. Stop in Midelt for lunch, then continue through cedar woodlands where Barbary macaques can sometimes be seen. Arrive in Fes in the late afternoon and enjoy a relaxed evening walk—perfect for capturing blue-hour scenes of old mosques and medieval walls.

Spend a full day exploring Fes, one of Morocco’s most photogenic and culturally rich cities. With a local guide, venture through the maze-like streets of the medina, stopping at tanneries, artisan workshops, colorful markets, and historical buildings. Use elevated viewpoints to shoot the skyline of minarets and rooftops. Fes offers incredible opportunities for portrait, architecture, and street photography, giving your portfolio a blend of color, tradition, and everyday life.

After breakfast in Fes, begin your journey toward Morocco’s Atlantic coast with a scenic drive to Rabat, the country’s capital and a great destination for architectural photography. Explore the elegant Hassan Tower, the Kasbah of the Udayas, and the Andalusian Gardens—each location offering clean lines, blue-and-white alleys, and peaceful viewpoints overlooking the ocean. Continue to Casablanca, Morocco’s modern and dynamic city. In the afternoon, photograph the iconic Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest and most beautiful mosques in the world. Its stunning oceanfront setting, marble courtyards, and intricate carvings are perfect for wide-angle shots and golden-hour compositions. Enjoy an evening walk along the Corniche to capture Casablanca’s coastal skyline.

Spend a relaxed morning in Casablanca, capturing any final images of the city’s modern architecture, seaside views, or lively markets. After breakfast, begin the drive back to Marrakech. The route is smooth and scenic, giving you time to reflect on your photography journey—from desert dunes and ancient kasbahs to medinas and Atlantic horizons. Once in Marrakech, you will be transferred to the airport or your accommodation, depending on your flight schedule.
