The Morocco Travel Blog
Practical, honest guides to planning a private Morocco journey — Grand Tours, the Sahara, and Morocco's Jewish heritage.
What is the Desert Morocco Tour blog?
The Desert Morocco Tour blog is a free library of planning guides for private Morocco journeys, written by our local team to help you choose a route, a pace and a travel style before you request an itinerary.
Each guide answers one planning question, such as how long to spend in the Sahara, how to build a multi-region Grand Tour, or how to visit Morocco's Jewish heritage sites. We explain the trade-offs honestly, including driving times and where a shorter trip needs compromises.
Morocco rewards that kind of planning because its highlights are spread out. In the southeast, the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga rise up to around 150 metres and stretch roughly 28 kilometres north to south. In the north, Fes holds one of the great historic cities of the Islamic world:
"One of the most extensive and best conserved historic towns of the Arab-Muslim world." — UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Medina of Fez
Marrakech has its own living heritage too. UNESCO recognises the city's main square for its storytellers, musicians and performers:
"A unique concentration of popular Moroccan cultural traditions." — UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, Jemaa el-Fna Square
Climate matters as well. Britannica notes a rainy season generally running from October to April and common snow at around 2,000 metres in the Atlas, which is why our guides discuss seasons route by route.
Which Morocco travel guide should you read first?
Start with the Grand Tours guide if this is your first trip, the desert guide if the Sahara is your priority, or the guide that matches who you are traveling with.
